Towards the end of my high school years, I remember being interested in a \u2018correspondence\u2019 course (no internet let alone online courses back then) for Commercial Art. I passed the entry requisites, but the cost was more than I could afford, so I started saving in the hope of being able to enrol in the course sometime soon. Fortunately my Nan, who was arguably my biggest fan, stepped in and paid for it so I could enrol and start straightaway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whilst the earlier units of the course predominately featured the fundamentals of drawing, the latter units were geared towards \u2018Commercial Art\u2019 which was, back then, the basics of graphic design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the time there wasn’t an opportunity available for me to be able to follow this career path, so long story short I ended up working in administration. However, jump forward a couple of decades and a couple of Uni degrees later and here I am \u2013 now working as a graphic designer. I no longer have any of the training materials or assessments from the course, but there is no doubt though those projects were worlds away from the digital mediums we are familiar with now! I only wish Nan could have witnessed the results of her confidence in me, and to know that she planted the seed towards a future career path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
